I literally don’t know anyone with quite the range of musical interests that I have. I’m not boasting, I find it concerning how narrow people’s taste can be. Music is one of the great arts. Not embracing it in all its variety means missing out on a huge amount of pleasure. By way of illustration, the music I’ve listened to today includes:
- Luciano Pavarotti
- Erroll Garner
- Amy Winehouse
- Joni Mitchell
- Johnny Winter
- Amalia Rodriguez
- Joan Baez
- Chet Baker
- Eva Cassidy
- Billie Holiday
- Yo-Yo Ma
- Bob Dylan
- Marianne Faithful
I also listened to a bit of Radio 3, but can’t remember everything played. The playlist for today is here though, and I see it includes everything from John Coltrane to J S Bach. You can also see other #musicmonday posts here.
I’m not claiming these are all equal quality, I don’t think that would be a claim that meant anything very much anyway. I do say though that they all have the right to be considered on their own terms as equal merit. Am I alone in thinking this way?
Only a short post this week, I’ve been busy writing something for an anthology. Finished the first draft, now time for editing.
